At a wedding, music is an expression of personal taste and emotion. At a gala dinner, music is a facilitator: it creates the right atmosphere for conversation, networking and representation. Too loud is problematic. Too quiet stands out as emptiness. The right music is present but not intrusive.
Per phase of the evening: what works?
The reception
Guests arrive, grab a drink, recognise colleagues and start networking. This is the moment for subtle background music — elegant but not dominant.
Ensemble DRE (fully acoustic, four musicians) is excellently suited here. No PA needed, no technician, no sound rising above the conversations. Along Comes Mary as a duo or trio adds a warm jazz mood that fits a reception environment perfectly.
The dinner
During the meal, you want music that carries the mood without cutting through table discussions. The volume rises slightly compared to the reception, but stays in the background.
Swamba (bossa nova and Brazilian jazz) is one of our most popular choices for gala dinner moments. The three musicians fill a room of 50 to 150 people without dominating. PA is included in the fee.
The programme and speeches
During speeches and official moments, no music plays. The ensemble is aware of the programme and stops in time.
The after-party
After dinner, the mood shifts. Guests stand up, move, the volume can rise. This is the moment for a cover band or DJ — bringing energy to the room and setting an active note under the evening.
DJ Stecks tailors his setlist to the average age and taste of your audience. For a corporate event, this is typically an eclectic mix of well-known hits across generations.

The music brief for your gala dinner
At a corporate event, a good brief matters even more than at a wedding. Give the ensemble:
- Your audience profile (sector, age, nationality)
- The language of the evening (Dutch, French, or mixed)
- Any themes the music needs to support
- The exact timeline with speeches, video moments and breaks
- The contact person on the night monitoring timing
